According to statistics, as of 2020, the global bioplastics production capacity has exceeded 2 million tons and will increase year by year. Bioplastics/materials can be divided into bio-based materials and petroleum-based materials according to the source of materials. Bio-based materials are derived from natural biomass components or derived from bacterial fermentation, and have the characteristics of renewability and carbon emission reduction.
According to the processing method, plastics/materials can be divided into degradable materials and non-degradable materials. Some bio-based materials are degradable materials and some are non-degradable materials. Under the guidance of policies and the transformation of environmental protection, biomaterials have ushered in tremendous development.

In China ,bio-based materials belong to both the technology industry and the low-carbon industry, and are included in the "Guiding Catalogue of Key Products and Services for Strategic Emerging Industries" by the National Development and Reform Commission.
The Ministry of Ecology and Environment of the National Development and Reform Commission requires in the "Fourteenth Five-Year Plan of Action for Plastic Pollution Control" to increase the research and transformation of key core technologies of degradable plastics, continuously improve product quality and performance, and reduce application costs.
According to calculations by relevant state agencies, if China is to achieve the goal of carbon neutrality by 2060, it may need to invest 136 trillion yuan. It is foreseeable that bio-based materials and degradable plastics will usher in major development opportunities.

As a leading country in the biomaterial industry, European and American countries not only have original and leading biomaterial suppliers such as Total, BASF, Natureworks, Genomatica, etc., but also a large number of well-known downstream packaging and product manufacturers. The field has rich and advanced industry experience.
