Genuine fully biodegradable mulch film is primarily made of polyester materials (such as PBAT - polybutylene terephthalate/PLA - polylactic acid/PPC - polypropylene carbonate or cellulose, etc.) that can be completely decomposed by microorganisms in nature. Under natural environmental conditions, it will be completely decomposed into water, carbon dioxide, inorganic salts, and biomass, leaving no harmful residues and being friendly to farmland soil and the environment.
Fake "degradable mulch film," on the other hand, is actually blown from traditional non-degradable polyethylene (PE) as the base material. These types of mulch films only contain a small amount of photosensitive additives. After a period of use, under ultraviolet light or heat-induced conditions, they only undergo macroscopic physical fragmentation, not true biodegradation, and easily form microplastic particles that are difficult to see with the naked eye. Large amounts of microplastic particles remaining in the soil for extended periods will severely damage soil structure and permeability, inhibit the metabolic activity of microbial communities, hinder crop root development, and may accumulate through food, threatening ecological security and human health. Therefore, cracking down on pseudo-biodegradation and promoting true biodegradation is an inevitable choice to ensure the green development of agriculture in my country.
