Key Technical Points of Fully Biodegradable Mulch Film

Technical Overview

 

1. Excellent biodegradability; early agronomical performance is essentially equivalent to ordinary PE mulch film.

2. Basically degrades during later harvesting and crop rotation, without affecting tillage operations.

3. No significant adverse effects on soil environment and crop yield.

4. Currently, there are problems such as unstable product quality, insufficient strength, and incomplete supporting technologies.

 

Biodegradable mulch film needs to be selected with appropriate color, thickness, and width to facilitate operation and be compatible with crop cultivation patterns to improve the controllability of degradation (i.e., preventing premature degradation and damage in the early stages to ensure warming, moisture retention, and weed control; and ensuring timely degradation in the later stages to ensure tillage without tangling with machinery).

 

White biodegradable mulch film has a good warming effect but is relatively easy to degrade and damage; black mulch film has a good weed control effect and stable performance, but a weak warming effect. For short-season cover crops, 8-10 micrometer black or white biodegradable mulch film can be used, provided the coverage requirements are met. For loose soil and flat beds, a slightly thinner film is preferable to improve cost-effectiveness; for heavy, hard soil, a slightly thicker film is recommended. If mechanical mulching is used, the film should be appropriately thickened to enhance mechanical properties and prevent damage. Biodegradable mulch film should be stored away from light, heat, and moisture; prolonged storage will lead to a decrease in product strength and functionality.

 

Suitable Crops:

 

Large-scale, concentrated planting areas;

short growing season or low requirements for temperature and moisture retention in the later stages;

facilitating the use of biodegradable film as it does not require recycling and can be directly tilled into the soil.

 

Unsuitable Scenarios:


Small greenhouse cultivation plots;

long growing season; poor controllability;

thicker, high-strength mulch film is recommended.
