6 major companies cooperate to launch reusable cups at K 2025

On May 22, Messe Düsseldorf, Germany, will introduce a reusable cup system for the first time at the K 2025 (click to view) from October 8 to 15, 2025, using high-performance modified foamed polypropylene (PP) materials provided by Borealis to reduce waste from large-scale events and respond to the EU's "Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation" goals.

The German K Show is the world's largest and most influential rubber and plastics industry event, bringing together more than 100 countries, more than 3,200 exhibitors, and 300,000 professionals.

Material Innovation

The PP material supplied by Borealis is based on OMV's ReOil® chemical recycling technology, which converts waste plastics into recycled raw materials, making the cups reusable, lightweight, and highly recyclable. Its foaming process reduces the amount of plastic by 50%, doubles the insulation performance, and is five times stronger than traditional materials. It significantly reduces the carbon footprint and is fully recyclable. Bockatech's EcoCore® technology further optimizes production efficiency and shortens manufacturing time.

Full process cycle

During the exhibition, reusable cups were provided free of charge in all catering areas, and special collection containers were set up on site. The logistics team recycled the cups and rinsed them in the kitchen for reuse. The cups discarded in ordinary trash cans were recycled by Borealis, and the unused ones were donated for reuse. Arburg provides high-end injection molding equipment, MCC Global IML integrates durable in-mold labels, and Miko Pac helps develop packaging solutions to form a complete industry chain collaboration.

Industry Demonstration and Sustainable Strategy

Düsseldorf Exhibition Company uses this as a pilot to evaluate the effectiveness of the reuse system of large-scale events, and will analyze the use and recycling data of cups to optimize future solutions. Borealis Vice President of Consumer Products Marketing pointed out that the reuse system is the key to the sustainability of activities, and its material solutions support the circular economy through lightweight and durability. OMV emphasizes that ReOil technology provides recycled raw materials for industry transformation. This initiative is in line with the K exhibition's "Green - Smart - Responsible" concept, becoming a benchmark for sustainable practices in the plastics industry and promoting the transformation of packaging to a circular model.
