Avantium and Sukano Sign Agreement to Collaborate on PEF Film Masterbatches
Avantium announced earlier that it has begun construction of the world's first gigafactory to produce FDCA (furandicarboxylic acid) from plant-based sugars. FDCA is a key ingredient in the manufacture of high-performance bio-based plastic PEF.
The company expects construction of the FDCA Gigafactory in the north of the Netherlands to be completed by the end of 2023, enabling PEF to achieve commercial launch in 2024. In 2021, Avantium has made an offtake commitment for half of the Gigafactory's capacity.
“The most important next step in building the factory and delivering the products is to ensure that we promote the use of these products in the market,” said Avantium’s CEO, “We recently announced a partnership with Louis Vuitton to incorporate PEF into their beauty products.
