Casio launches the first bio-based plastic watch
Casio Computer (Tokyo, Japan) recently announced the latest member of the PRO TREK outdoor watch series. The new PRW-61 is Casio's first watch made of biomass plastic derived from renewable organic substances.
This is the first time Casio has used biomass plastic in the case, strap and back of the watch. This environment-friendly biomass plastic is produced using materials from castor seeds and corn as well as other raw materials. Casio is proud that its outdoor tool series PRO TREK provides this new material application for nature lovers.
In recent years, biomass plastics produced from renewable resources have attracted much attention as a material that can help reduce environmental impact by reducing carbon dioxide emissions.
Provide outdoor practical functions. This model is equipped with triple sensors (digital compass, barometer/altimeter and thermometer), as well as multi-band radio wave reception from six transmission stations around the world, and Tough Solar to provide stable power for these functions. In order to obtain the best readability, the design uses a thick bar time scale to make time, direction and other indicators clear at a glance. The slit on the strap above and below the dial can be used as a guide to quickly read the compass direction indicated by the second hand.
As part of its focus on the goal of sustainable development, Casio is implementing a series of environmental protection measures, including changing from plastic to recycled paper in the packaging of PRW-61. Looking ahead, Casio will also contribute to the establishment of a circular economy by expanding the use of sustainable materials in the design of other watch models.
