On June 10, the renowned Japanese tea brand LUPICIA announced that, effective April 1, 2026, the filter material for all its tea bags will be fully switched to biodegradable materials.
LUPICIA stated its commitment to fulfilling environmental responsibilities through its tea bag products. To this end, the company has selected plant-based, biodegradable materials for the tea bag filters. By facilitating the degradation of these materials in the natural environment, LUPICIA aims to help alleviate the problem of marine plastic pollution. This initiative seeks to minimize the impact of synthetic chemical materials on the natural environment and soil, thereby ensuring an ecologically rich environment for future generations and allowing people to continue enjoying the delicious taste of tea for decades to come.

Founded in 1994, LUPICIA is a tea retailer specializing in teas from around the world. It offers over 400 varieties annually-including black, green, and oolong teas sourced from global regions, as well as original blends and flavored teas-and operates a total of 139 stores across Japan, Paris (France), Melbourne (Australia), and Hawaii (USA).
