Macau Will Promote Plastic Restriction Measures in An Orderly Manner

      On August 30, the Macao Environmental Protection Agency announced that the Macao SAR government will orderly promote plastic restriction measures to protect the local environment.


      After comprehensively analyzing the actual situation in Macao and referring to the experience of other regions, following the implementation of the control measures for disposable styrofoam tableware, the Macao Special Administrative Region Government has implemented the Law No. 7/2003 "Foreign Trade Law" as amended by Law No. 3/2016. Article 5, paragraph 1 (5), through the Chief Executive’s directive No. 122/2021, prohibiting the import and transshipment of non-degradable disposable plastic catering straws and beverage stirring rods. The relevant Chief Executive’s directive will be in January 2022. Effective from the 1st.


      On November 30, 2020, the Macao Special Administrative Region Government, in accordance with the provisions of Article 5, paragraph 1 (5) of the Foreign Trade Law, No. 7/2003, as amended by Law No. 3/2016, adopted No. 222/2020 The Chief Executive's directive bans the import and transshipment of disposable styrofoam tableware (including lunch boxes, bowls, cups, and plates). The relevant Chief Executive's directive will take effect on January 1, 2021.
