South Korea develops 4 kinds of microbially degradable fishing net materials
In order to reduce ghost fishing gear and protect the marine ecosystem, the National Academy of Fisheries of Korea has recently developed 4 kinds of microbially degradable fishing net materials.
Ghost fishing gear refers to the fishing gear that is discarded during the fishing process. It is generally made of plastic materials such as nylon. This material is difficult to decompose in a short time, and it is also easy to wrap around the necks and fins of marine life. Unable to breathe and eventually die.
The four materials newly developed by the National Academy of Fisheries are BEAS, PBEAS+AH, PBES, and Bio-PBS, which will be decomposed by microorganisms after a period of time in the sea, which can greatly reduce the resource loss and environmental pollution caused by ghost fishing gear.
