Thailand's "Plastic Restriction Order": The use of plastic bags and disposable plastic cups will be reduced by 100% in 2022
On January 10, according to the "2018-2030 Plastic Waste Management Plan" issued by the cabinet, the Thailand Pollution Control Department accelerated the implementation of plastic waste management, and carried out pilot projects for waste reduction and classification in government agencies across the country. And set a goal to reduce the amount of waste sent for disposal to 30% by 2022, and the number of foam food packaging boxes to 100%.
Atapeng, director of the Thai Pollution Control Department, revealed that the cabinet meeting has approved the "Plastic Waste Management Plan 2018-2030", and the goal is to eliminate four types of single-use plastics by 2022 to use environmentally friendly renewable materials, namely Thin portable plastic bags with a thickness of less than 36 microns, foam food packaging boxes, plastic cups with a thickness of less than 100 microns, plastic straws; ), bottle caps, plastic cups, plastic spoons, forks, knives, etc.
Atapeng said the Pollution Control Department, as part of the push, had proposed to the Cabinet to carry out pilot projects in government agencies across the country to reduce and sort waste, covering 19 ministries, 152 ministerial departments and 76 prefectures . Since 2019, waste disposal has decreased by 89,805 tons, hand-held plastic bags have decreased by 341 million, single-use plastic cups have decreased by 146 million, and foam food packaging boxes have decreased by 194 million. The goals for 2022 are:
(1) reduce waste disposal by at least 30%;
(2) reduce the number of hand-held plastic bags by 100%;
(3) reduce the use of single-use plastic cups by 100%;
(4) various institutions do not Use foam food packaging.
