UK-based Power Adhesives launches first biodegradable hot melt adhesive
On September 6, UK-based Power Adhesives announced the launch of its biodegradable hot melt adhesive, which it claims is a "world first" and is designed for use in cartons, corrugated packaging, point-of-sale (POS) converters and contract packagers.
Tecbond 2014B is certified to completely decompose in an oxygen environment, leaving only harmless products and free of microplastics. tecbond 2014B is made from 44% bio-based materials and is certified to ASTM D6400 and EN13432, the latter being the EU standard that sets requirements for compostable and biodegradable products.
Tecbond 214B is available globally and the company says it has the same performance characteristics as standard tecbond, with high tack and fast setting speeds, providing "almost instant" bonding once applied and compressed, and is designed to enable companies to improve the efficiency of packaging procedures, workflows and output. Tecbond 214B is also certified for indirect food contact, enabling it to be used in all areas of the food packaging process, from wraparound cartons and boxes to transport packaging.
