During the 2026 Brand Professional Exhibition in Bologna (Marca 2026, January 14-15, 2026), the Italian Novamont Group unveiled the new image for its Mater-Bi.
Mater-Bi is a biodegradable bioplastic based on biological raw materials, developed and produced by the Novamont Group in the province of Novara, Italy, and currently a subsidiary of Versalis (ENI). This image upgrade was necessary 30 years after its initial market launch.
Novamont stated that the rebranding and new communication campaign, handled by Angelini Design, aims to strengthen Mater-Bi's brand recognition and uniqueness-highlighting its attributes as a "distinctive material combining value, quality, and innovation." This achievement stems from Novamont's continuously iterating technology and expertise, as well as its increasingly efficient use of natural resources.
The new logo visually conveys the connection to the land and the concept of a cycle: a circular pattern composed of a stem and three leaves symbolizes a complete ecosystem.
According to the official description, this design echoes both the natural cycle and Mater-Bi's life cycle-this constantly evolving material ultimately returns to the soil as compost, naturally completing its life cycle without leaving behind persistent microplastics; it also foreshadows its diverse recycling possibilities, becoming a symbol of Mater-Bi's sustainable development and a deep dialogue between nature and technology. The logo's primary color, green, highlights its close connection with plant-based materials and healthy soil.

Mater-Bi bioplastics-born for those who care about the planet.
At the heart of the new communication strategy is a series of illustration-themed activities, featuring Turin-based artist Elisa Talentino. This artist, active in illustration, art design, painting, and animation, uses her ability to transform complex concepts into impactful and intuitive images to build a more direct and humane communication bridge.
The event is set in an imaginative world: a person immersed in a lush natural landscape (as if becoming one with the environment) holds a biodegradable, compostable shopping bag-one of Mater-Bi's most iconic applications.
