PLA stands for polylactic acid. 

It comes from natural, renewable starch-rich crops such as corn and potatoes, and is also known as "corn plastic."

PLA has similar mechanical properties to PETE polymers, but has a significantly lower maximum continuous service temperature.

Heat resistant PLA can withstand temperatures of 110°C.

*100% compostable, biodegradable: Under composting conditions, PLA will break down into lactic acid.

The lactic acid is broken down by bacteria into water and carbon dioxide.

* Depending on the size and thickness of the product, it takes 90-180 days under composting conditions.
