What is compostable straw?

Compostable straw are eco-friendly disposable straw which are 100% made of plants. The most important feature of compostable straws is that they can be composted without leaving behind any residuals such as heavy metals. As opposed to biodegradable straws, which can be biodegraded in the landfill by the actions of microorganism, compostable straws need to be composted in a composting pile. 

What is a compostable straw made of ?

It can be made of PLA, rice and sugarcane. PLA drinking straws are made of polylactic acid that is 100% plant-based plastic. Our PLA straws meet ASTM standards for compostability. 

Are compostable straws better than other ones?

The main advantage of compostable straws made from plants is that apart from being fully degradable, they break down in the compost without leaving behind any residuals. Compostable drinking straws deteriorate into water, biomass and carbon dioxide within 30 to 40 days of compostable disposal, the plastic straws will last more than 400 years in the natural environment.
