On March 18th, Italian company Recupero Etico Sostenibile (RES) announced the acquisition of a business unit from Petalo Due. This unit includes a polylactic acid (PLA) production plant, along with related machinery, contracts, certifications, trademarks, patents, and operating licenses necessary to conduct business.
The plant is located in Termoli (CB), Italy. The transaction price is €2.7 million, funded by the company's internal cash reserves.
The plant, using Sulzer technology, will have an annual capacity of 5,000 tons and will officially begin production in the fourth quarter of 2027. Upon reaching full capacity in 2028, it is expected to generate €20-25 million in revenue annually, while creating 20 new jobs.
Polylactic acid (PLA) is biodegradable, compostable, and highly biocompatible, allowing its applications to expand from traditional sectors like packaging and textiles to high-value-added sectors such as cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and biomedicine, aligning with the latest regulatory guidelines. The company will focus its production capacity on these areas.
RES CEO Antonio Lucio Valerio stated, "This transaction is an important part of the company's clear development strategy, aiming to solidify our position as a benchmark industrial enterprise in the fields of circular economy, environmental sustainability, and green chemistry, and to become a highly innovative producer of renewable natural raw material polymers."
