A foreign company launches bio-based jumpsuits

British fashion designer Stella McCartney has unveiled the world's first garments made from Radiant Matter's plastic-free plant-based sequins.
Material innovation startup Radiant Matter, dubbed "bio-sparkles," creates sequins derived from plant-based cellulose without the use of metals, minerals, synthetic pigments, and colorants. The innovative sequins are plastic free, biodegradable and non-toxic.

McCartney used 'BioSequins' to create a unique experimental sleeveless fitted jumpsuit handmade in the label's London studio for model Cara Delevingne's April 2023 US Vogue Dressed in the cover story.

"I was amazed by the iridescent beauty of our BioSequin all-in-one - handcrafted in my London studio with plant-derived, non-toxic sequins, more stunning than traditional options," McCartney said in a release explain. "Who says sustainability can't be sexy? Cara is stunning in this rare and precious garment and I'm so thankful that Vogue has given us the platform to share it and inspire others to see the potential of a more conscious fashion future.

While the BioSequin Stella McCartney jumpsuit is not yet available, the fashion brand hopes to demonstrate the potential for Radiant Matter material innovation as it continues to push itself to use only recycled, recyclable and bio-based alternatives in the near future.

Elissa Brunatto, founder of Radiant Matter, added: "It was so special to see how Stella McCartney worked with our BioSequins to bring them to life in this beautiful jumpsuit. We love her passion for sustainability and An uncompromising approach to aesthetics, which is reflected in every decision, including the choice of fabric and thread, resulting in a stunning fully plant-derived garment.
