Effective January 1st! New Regulations For Green Product Certification Issued in China (Degradable And Recyclable Center)

Jan 06, 2026

On January 4th, the State Administration for Market Regulation, the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Water Resources, the Ministry of Commerce, the National Energy Administration, and the State Post Bureau jointly issued the "Administrative Measures for Green Product Certification and Labeling."

These measures will take effect on January 1, 2026, and the "Announcement of the State Administration for Market Regulation on Issuing the 'Administrative Measures for the Use of Green Product Labels'" (Announcement No. 20 of 2019) will be repealed simultaneously.

This is the first time my country has systematically and comprehensively standardized green product certification activities, marking a significant shift in my country's green product certification and labeling system from single label management to full-chain certification supervision.

According to reports, the measures are based on the principles of "unified product catalog, unified evaluation standards, unified certification rules, and unified product labeling," focusing on the full-process supervision of green product certification activities, clarifying the hierarchical and classified management approach of the system, and clearly defining the applicable scenarios for full-item and sub-item certifications of green products. Meanwhile, the "Management Measures" provide detailed regulations on certification implementation, certificate management, label use, and supervisory responsibilities, clarifying the main responsibilities of each relevant party and providing clear guidance for related work.

According to statistics, as of now, the green product certification catalog covers 122 types of products closely related to consumers, including electronic appliances, furniture, building materials, express packaging, and textiles, with nearly 40,000 valid certification certificates involving more than 8,000 certified enterprises. Green product certification certificates are valid for 5 years.

The basic pattern of the green product label is shown below:
