The EU Has Introduced Several Measures To Strengthen Plastic Recycling Efforts, And Has Proposed The Circular Economy Act in 2026

On December 23, 2025, the European Commission announced a series of initial pilot measures aimed at accelerating Europe's transition to a circular economy, with a particular focus on the plastics industry.

 

These measures include short-term actions and long-term legislative plans, targeting reduced climate emissions, improved energy efficiency, increased trade surplus, and challenges facing the plastics recycling industry. Furthermore, the EU plans to strengthen the regulatory framework, promote investment and level competition, and launch public consultations to assess the effectiveness of existing policies.
