Foamplant Launches Biodegradable Foam

Nov 09, 2022

When it comes to plastic waste, most people blame bottle and bag manufacturers. Yet almost half of the plastic waste on the planet is foam. Martin Tietema of Foamplant, who is doing a great job for the planet and multiple business units, has launched a new sustainable product called Moorefoam as an alternative to regular foam.

What is Moore Foam?

Foamplant's Moorefoam is the world's first product that could help revolutionize global manufacturing. It's a full-circle, open-cell foam that, if it's as sustainable as the company claims, could prove to be a suitable material for manufacturers of furniture, bedding, automotive and avionics.

One of Moorefoam's main unique selling points is that manufacturers can reuse it. If some parts of the manufacturing industry choose to use Foamplant's new products, their CO2 emissions could drop by as much as 90%, significantly reducing their carbon footprint and helping them meet their sustainability goals.

Moorefoam is made from biopolyester, a biodegradable polymer obtained from biomonomers such as polylactic acid, polyhydroxybutyrate and polycaprolactone. It is naturally flame retardant and, just as importantly, the foam product contains no harmful additives, making it ideal for mattress production and airline seating.

Founder of the company (Martin Tietema) said: "With enough perseverance and creativity, we and others can produce every material in a sustainable way. There has been good demand for Moorefoam in some industries internationally, with furniture production In addition to this, some international automakers and airlines are now also interested.
