Dec 01, 2025

On November 25, 2025, TotalEnergies Corbion announced the appointment of Thierry Boulfroy as its new CEO.

The company is a 50/50 joint venture between TotalEnergies and Corbion, producing polylactic acid (PLA)-based bioplastics.

Thomas Philipon had led the French company for the previous five years, and this change marks his departure.

TotalEnergies Corbion stated that this senior management change signifies a new phase of development for the company, with key focuses including enhancing competitiveness, improving operational performance, and exploring new growth opportunities in the global PLA market.

Thirerry Boulfroy (pictured above) was born in 1963 and has 35 years of experience in the refining, polymer, and biopolymer industries. He comes from TotalEnergies, previously working at Hanwha TotalEnergies Petrochemicals, a South Korean joint venture, where he served as Executive Vice President and Joint Representative Director from 2020 to 2025, responsible for the company's strategic operations in the petrochemical sector.

Earlier, he served as General Manager of the TotalEnergies Petrochemicals Feluy plant in Belgium (2015), a plant primarily producing polymers. Prior to that, from 2008 to 2015, he also led several operating branches in Asia (including Singapore, Thailand, and Hong Kong), holding management positions in polystyrene, logistics, and business development. Earlier in his career, he also held global positions related to polystyrene production at companies such as TotalEnergies, Atofina, Elf Atochem, Bostik Findley, and Orkem, coordinating production, logistics management, and marketing, with work locations in Singapore, Thailand, Belgium, Paris, Hong Kong, and South Korea.

Following his appointment as the new CEO of Total Corbion, he will be responsible for driving the global expansion of the Luminy series of polylactic acid (PLA) products, consolidating the company's industrial performance, and helping the company establish a benchmark position in the bio-based polymer field, achieving its strategic positioning.
