India Launches First Biodegradable Billboard, Promoting 100% Biodegradable Slippers
Recently, Chupps Footwear, a homegrown, open-label footwear brand, unveiled India's first biodegradable billboard in Bandra, Mumbai, a pioneering initiative in sustainable fashion. Conceived by INTO Creative, the billboard symbolizes Chupps' bold commitment to reducing waste in fashion, both in its products and its promotional campaigns.
The new 20-foot x 10-foot billboard, located in Bandra, Mumbai, took four days to install. Made entirely of biodegradable materials, it features a massive bamboo structure, replacing the more common iron and tin structures. A mixture of mud, clay, cow dung, hay, and sawdust is used to create the massive slider and backdrop. The title is written in fresh limestone, rather than ordinary white paint.
Unlike traditional billboards, the billboard is designed to decompose naturally in the rain, echoing Chupps' latest innovation: biodegradable slippers, which biodegrade in just 24 months once discarded in a landfill. "If our products can disappear responsibly, so can our messages," the campaign declares, redefining sustainability in fashion communication.
The global fashion industry generates over 92 million tons of waste annually, with footwear taking up to a century to decompose. India, one of the world's largest footwear markets, is also a major source of post-consumer waste. Chupps' new collection, made with TruZero™ Bio Foam and designed to decompose responsibly, proves that fashion and comfort don't have to come at the expense of the planet.
Chupps founder Yashesh Mukhi said, "The future of fashion isn't determined by how long it lasts, but how gently it leaves. Designing for the end is the only way to ensure the planet begins anew."

Santosh Padhi, founder and chief creative officer of INTO Creative, added, "We want to make biodegradability a reality-so we created it. The billboard itself speaks to Chupps' commitment." The fashion industry contributes 8-10% of global carbon emissions, more than aviation and shipping combined. The waste it generates continues to clog our landfills, leaving it to linger for decades. Recognizing this, today's consumers are increasingly demanding that brands be not only comfortable and fashionable, but also affordable, suitable for their wallets and good for the planet. Through this campaign, Chupps is not only producing products, but also conveying an idea. Fashion does not need to be eternal, it just needs to leave gracefully. This biodegradable billboard is a vivid metaphor. It calls on Generation Z and millennials to rethink sustainability and no longer see it as a compromise, but as an upgrade, a freedom to choose beautiful, comfortable and beneficial products.
