Japanese company TenTac launches PLA zipper bag

On December 16, Japanese company Tentac announced that it has started selling filmless paper packaging products. This is a sustainable product that greatly reduces the use of plastic materials while retaining the natural texture of paper.

Plastic packaging has long been a low-cost, high-strength, transparent material. But in recent years, there has been a strong push to reduce the use of plastic from a sustainability perspective. Therefore, paper packaging has attracted much attention as the next choice.

On the other hand, paper packaging must solve the strength problem, and commercialization is not easy. Tentac has successfully commercialized high-strength, plastic-free film packaging by pursuing long-fiber papers that easily entangle with each other and adhesives for bonding.

Taking into account actual usage, this product is equipped with a zipper to close the product, and the zipper is made of PLA material. This is achieved by combining paper with polylactic acid, a material that easily returns to the soil. This is the company's concern for the global environment. PLA (polylactic acid) is a biodegradable plastic made from starch from plants such as corn and sugar cane. It has a low impact on the environment and is considered a sustainable material.

In addition, after results testing, the results showed that the tested paper was safe as a food contact material.
