Korean makeup brand adopts new packaging of PHA+PLA to replace ABS

 

Recently, South Korea's CJ CheilJedang announced that its subsidiary CJ Biomaterials, Inc. has successfully developed cosmetic packaging for CJ Olive Young. This new cosmetic box uses CJ Biomaterials' amorphous PHA combined with polylactic acid (PLA) to apply to CJ Olive Young's makeup series WAKEMAKE Moisture Velvet Matte Concealer Cushion Cushion, which was launched in Korea on December 21 , except for the inner container and the mirror, the entire outer container uses biodegradable materials.

 

PLA has experienced significant growth as a biobased material in a wide range of finished product applications and is currently the most widely used industrial compostable material in the world, but it has certain limitations. The addition of amorphous PHA to PLA can significantly improve the mechanical properties of PLA, such as toughness and ductility, thereby enhancing impact resistance and creating elegant shapes. CJ Biomaterials' amorphous PHA is a softer, rubberier type of PHA with different performance characteristics than the crystalline or semi-crystalline forms currently dominating the PHA market.

 

Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene copolymer (ABS) is currently widely used in cosmetic containers, and some developed countries and leading cosmetic brands are actively working to replace this petroleum-based, non-biodegradable plastic. 100% bio-based amorphous PHA and PLA materials are applied to the entire exterior of the WAKEMAKE container, replacing ABS. Now is the right time to introduce a greener package.
