Mengniu: PHA Marine Biodegradable Straws Commercialized
From October 20th to 23rd, local time, the 2025 World Dairy Summit, hosted by the International Dairy Federation (IDF), will be held in Santiago, Chile. Mengniu Group was invited to attend the conference and discuss the future of the dairy industry with representatives from around the world.
At the conference, Mengniu's "Future Star" infant formula was shortlisted for the "IDF Dairy Innovation Awards" in the "Human Nutrition Dairy Innovation Award";
Mengniu's premium yogurt brand "YogurtDay" successfully shortlisted for the "Dairy Packaging and Transparency Innovation Award" with its PHA straw.
This PHA straw, developed by Mengniu in collaboration with Tsinghua University through molecular design optimization and formula improvement, is biodegradable in the marine environment, providing a sustainable alternative to plastic, and is currently commercialized.
Guided by its GREEN sustainable development strategy, Mengniu is comprehensively promoting the development and application of green packaging, and in 2024 proposed the "4R1D" strategy: reduce packaging material usage, promote recycling, use reusable designs, apply renewable materials, and selectively use biodegradable materials.
In its first-ever "Green Packaging Value Report" released by the dairy industry, Mengniu stated that it will gradually phase out environmentally unfriendly plastics such as PVC and EPS, and explore the application of renewable and biodegradable materials through reduction and replacement and recyclable designs, thereby reducing the environmental impact of packaging products at their source and demonstrating its firm commitment to social responsibility and environmental protection.
