Mowilex creates Indonesia's first renewable bio-based paint
Recently, PT Mowilex Indonesia (Mowilex)'s new Naturalle™ paint uses a groundbreaking bio-based formula containing 28% renewable raw materials to remove formaldehyde from indoor air. Producing Naturalle™ from plant-based elements reduces its overall carbon footprint while creating a durable, high-performance matte paint that is low-odor and free of organic compounds (VOCs).
Mowilex is the first manufacturer in Indonesia to formulate sustainable bio-based paints. The water-based acrylic adhesive is made from 28% natural ingredients derived from existing seeds, stems and grasses. Using plant-based sources mitigates pollution by reducing the need for petroleum-derived polymers, thereby lowering the product's overall carbon footprint.
By swapping petroleum resins for plant-based alternatives, Mowilex has created an ultra-low odor, low emission, zero VOC paint. The innovative bio-based technology behind Naturalle™ also actively improves air quality in homes and offices. Building materials, cleaning products, varnishes and other items release formaldehyde, a pollutant that irritates eyes and noses, triggers asthma attacks and increases cancer risk. Naturalle™ absorbs formaldehyde and converts it into water vapor, permanently eliminating the pollutant from indoor air.
Mowilex is applying to certify Naturalle™ through the USDA's BioPreferred® Program. A battery of independent voluntary third-party program testing confirms products meet or exceed minimum biobased content requirements.
