Mitsubishi Chemical launched a biodegradable shopping bag, which has a bitter taste and prevents swallowing
Mitsubishi Chemical Group, KIRACS Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as KIRACS) and SHIMOJIMA Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as SHIMOJIMA) jointly developed a marine biodegradable shopping bag, which uses biodegradable resin derived from plants The polymer "FORZEAS™" and the ingredient "Denatonium Benzoin" that give fish a bitter taste.
Mitsubishi Chemical Group first produced FORZEAS™ plastic bags, then KIRACS made films and bags, and finally SHIMOJIMA sold "ENERFISH" as a marine biodegradable shopping bag.
FORZEAS™ is a polymer made by Mitsubishi Chemical Group using biodegradable resin "BioPBS™" derived from plants, which can be degraded into water and carbon dioxide by natural microorganisms. The marine biodegradable shopping bag developed this time can be degraded by about 90% after staying in the ocean for one year. It also emits approximately 30% less CO2 when incinerated than ordinary shopping bags made from petroleum-derived raw materials.
Denatonium benzoate is an organic compound that can cause a strong bitter taste to humans and fish. This ingredient is relatively safe and can even be applied to children's toys to prevent children from swallowing it. ENERFISH plastic bags use denatonium benzoate, which can effectively reduce the risk of accidental ingestion by marine organisms.
