Packaging classification in Spain
According to the final provisions of Spanish Royal Decree 1055/2022, from January 1, 2025, all household packaging must be marked on it with which classification container it should be placed in.
Spain will enforce the use of classification labels in different colors.Depending on the type of packaging and the type of container, the logo is divided into four color versions: yellow, blue, green and brown
The brown label is applicable to compostable packaging. If the packaging meets the UNE EN 13432:2001 standard and can be almost completely decomposed with organic matter in industrial facilities, the packaging is considered compostable. For compostable packaging, it must be marked on the packaging "Do not discard in the environment".
Example Compostable packaging: Material that can be decomposed under certain conditions and can be used as fertilizer.
