Spanish company launches PLA bottle for baby bath products

Recently, Nua Cosmetics, ITC Packaging and ADBioplastics have collaborated to develop a compostable bio-based bottle made of polylactic acid (PLA) for Biositivo, a brand of Provei Global.

The project began with a challenge from Biositivo, a brand of Provei Global: to develop not only a compostable bottle, but also an environmentally friendly baby shower gel that meets the highest quality standards for sensitive baby skin and is compatible with this type of packaging. Provei Global wanted to launch a solution that combines high quality with sustainable packaging, in line with its ecological principles. Nua Cosmetics accepted the challenge and chose ITC Packaging, which has extensive experience in sustainable packaging solutions, and ADBioplastics, which has expertise in developing biodegradable materials, as partners.

The result is this 500 ml bottle with a push-button dispenser, which marks a major step forward in the mission of the participating companies to promote sustainable development. Unlike traditional polymers, bioplastics are fossil-free and renewable materials, formulated and developed by AD Bioplastics, which also conducts compostability, migration and compatibility tests.

"At Provei Global and Biositivo, we are committed to creating products that are fully integrated into the natural cycle and do not generate waste. We are very proud to work with like-minded partners such as Nua Cosmetics, ITC Packaging and AD Bioplastics to help us develop a product that is not only good for children, but also for the planet," said Sébastien Favier, CEO of Provei Global.

From a technical point of view, this new material improves the performance of general bioplastics, improving transparency and barrier properties to oxygen and water vapor, as well as enhancing toughness and impact resistance. This solution is not only environmentally friendly, but also promotes recycling through organic recycling, which can help reduce waste in the environment when placed in brown bins.

Carlos Soto, CEO of Nua Cosmetics, said: "This project was an exciting technical challenge. Developing a high-quality baby wash formula that is compatible with compostable packaging further strengthens our commitment to sustainability and children's health."

After launching the bottle, and based on the experience gained in the project, ITC launched a new packaging line called Bio2Bio, which complies with the EN13432 standard, certifying that its packaging can be converted into compost within three months after undergoing an industrial composting process.
