The Slovenian government decided to ban the sale of disposable plastic products, with a few exceptions. The relevant regulations passed at the communication meeting on August 18 (Wednesday) also stipulate the labeling of certain disposable plastic items and their packaging to raise awareness of recycling.
Products prohibited by this regulation include plastic tableware, dishes and straws, and ear swabs, except for products used as medical devices. Plastic stirring rods and balloon sticks are also banned, except for those used for industrial purposes and not for customers.
This regulation replaces EU regulations and also prohibits expanded polystyrene food and beverage packaging and articles made of oxidatively degradable plastics.
"The regulation also specifies the packing label requirements of some disposable plastic products . The implementation regulations of the European Commission have been issued for labeling rules. The implementation regulations and their corrections provide that these products can be labeled during a one-year transition period. By adding label, consumers can learn about appropriate waste management options or waste disposal methods that should be avoided according to the waste grade, and how to discharge waste into the environment due to the presence of plastics in products and the subsequent negative effects of littering or other misconduct. Sanitary napkins, tampons and tampon applicators, moisturizing wipes for personal care and home use.
The ban will take effect 15 days after the regulation is published in the official gazette. Legal entities that fail to comply with the regulations can be fined up to 15,000 euros, sole proprietors can be fined up to 5,000 euros, and administrative personnel or responsible owners can be fined up to 3,000 euros.
