TIPA: Home Compostable Fruit and Vegetable Labels

On October 13, 2025, European packaging manufacturer Coveris entered into an exclusive partnership agreement with TIPA, an Israeli manufacturer of bioplastic films, to jointly produce and market home compostable fruit and vegetable labels in the UK.

This collaboration combines TIPA's new home compostable label-which is highly resilient and moisture-resistant-with Coveris's large-scale production capabilities and extensive market experience. These labels have been proven to adhere well to damp or irregular surfaces of fruits such as apples, citrus fruits, kiwis, and avocados without affecting their compostability.

Soon, the EU, New Zealand, and Australia will mandate the use of compostable fruit and vegetable labels. In the UK, the Waste and Resources Action Plan (WRAP) and the Plastics Pact also support the transition to compostable solutions, as labels have been identified as a source of plastic pollution in the organic waste stream.

Gary Tee, TIPA's Global Vice President of Processing, said: "This collaboration goes beyond the label itself: it's about eliminating unnecessary plastic from the food system. Our home compostable certified materials offer high performance, and equally importantly, provide brands with sustainable options. By partnering with Coveris, we can combine the strengths of both parties to provide a solution that both eliminates traditional plastic labels from the organic waste stream and complies with upcoming regulations."
