Total joins hands with Brazilian company to enter the US PLA market
Recently, TotalEnergies Corbion is continuing to cooperate with Brazil's Earth Renewable Technologies (ERT Bioplastics) to develop the US market for polylactic acid (PLA).
According to known information, Total Energy Corbion and ERT Bioplastics are in a cooperative relationship to develop the US market for polylactic acid (PLA), but this partnership is not equivalent to a distributor relationship. Total Energy Corbion provides bio-based and industrially compostable materials Luminy® PLA resin for the production of durable, high-quality food service utensils such as cutlery, cups, plates and straws. The cooperation aims to meet the growing demand for sustainable and compostable packaging in the US market, while supporting supply chain flexibility with the help of ERT's operations in Brazil.
For US food service providers who are seeking alternatives that meet sustainability goals and enhance supply chain resilience, this collaboration combines Total Energy Cobien's technical leadership in PLA with ERT's compounding capabilities and strategic location, providing a reliable solution for US buyers who want to introduce compostable products to restaurants, stadiums, campuses and events.

Thomas Philipon, CEO of Total Energy Corbion, said that the collaboration with ERT Bioplastics not only expands the US market's access to compostable food service utensils, but also helps food service providers build a more resilient and sustainable supply chain, strengthens Total Energy Corbion's long-term commitment to expand access to sustainable solutions in the Americas, and supports partners who share a common vision of a low-carbon, circular future.
