UAE-based PLA Company: Separating Production From Sales; Embio Biotech To Oversee Global Sales

Oct 19, 2026

October 12, 2026, Singapore/Dubai - Global Biopolymers Industries (GBI), the Singapore-registered parent company, has announced a structural reorganization of its PLA (polylactic acid) business. The company is splitting its commercial operations from its manufacturing activities into two distinct entities to accelerate international expansion.

Under the new structure, Dubai-based Embio Biotech-led by François de Bie-will assume full responsibility for the global marketing, sales, and technical customer support for GBI's "Embio" PLA product line, engaging directly with processors, brand owners, and distributors.

Emirates Biotech, led by Viktoria de Simone, will focus on the construction and operation of a world-class PLA production facility in the UAE, handling regional manufacturing and supply chain functions.

Engineering, technical, and operational capabilities have been consolidated under GBI Management Services, headed by Marc Verbruggen.

Dorus Everwijn, President of GBI, stated that this realignment is designed to allow each division to "focus on its core mission": the sales arm will concentrate on market expansion and customer service, the production arm will ensure capacity and delivery, and the technical division will provide unified support.

As a plant-based, biodegradable polymer, PLA is seeing increased demand driven by tightening environmental regulations across the global packaging and consumer goods industries. GBI's decision to establish its production base in the UAE also aligns with the nation's "Operation 300bn" industrial development strategy.
