Polybutylene adipate terephthalate (PBAT) is a new type of fully biodegradable aliphatic-aromatic copolyester. Blending modification with other polymers is an effective means to improve the comprehensive performance of PBAT substrates, and it is also an important way to reduce the price of the material.
Blend of PBAT and polylactic acid (PLA)
Although PLA has high strength and compression modulus, it is hard and poor in toughness, lacks flexibility and elasticity, is very easy to bend and deform, and has poor impact and tear resistance, which limits the use of PLA to a certain extentscope.
Also as a biodegradable material, PBAT happens to have good tensile properties and flexibility. Using PBAT and PLA blending to toughen it is an effective method .

Polypropylene carbonate (PPC) is a non-toxic thermoplastic biodegradable polymer material with biocompatibility. There are ether bonds on the main chain, the chain is more flexible, and the glass transition temperature is close to room temperature. PPC has high tensile strength and high modulus, good biocompatibility, good gas barrier properties, and low air permeability.
However, due to its amorphous structure, the molecular chain is flexible and the interaction force is small, the thermal performance of PPC is not good, and the brittleness at low temperature is large. The performance of PPC and PBAT has distinct complementary characteristics, so blending PBAT and PPC is one of the effective methods to prepare high-performance PBAT composite materials.
