Charging brand Anker is the first to launch a bio-based USB-C charging cable
On September 6, 2022, Anker, the world's #1 mobile charging brand, announced the launch of its line of USB-C charging cables that incorporate a proprietary blend of plant-based materials into the production process. These bio-based cables feature the new "Anker" Eco Product" logo, part of Anker's eco-innovation efforts to reduce petroleum-based plastics in product development.
Solving the plastic problem It's no secret that the consumer electronics industry has a plastic problem, with approximately 622 million USB cables being used around the world each year.
It takes about 43,000 tons of oil and about 9,000 tons of plastic to manufacture these cables, and these numbers will only continue to increase in the future.
The outer jacket of Anker's new bio-based cables is made from 40% plant-based materials such as corn and sugar cane. This innovative new cable reduces the use of petroleum-based plastics such as thermoplastic elastomers (TPE) without sacrificing properties such as quality, strength or durability.
Steven Yang, CEO of Anker Innovations, said: "As a global leader in mobile charging, we have a responsibility to explore reducing the environmental impact of our electronics and packaging, and these bio-based cables are just the first step, and we're excited to help Our company and the entire consumer electronics industry drive this ecological innovation."
Durable
Anker's bio-based cables are as strong as the plastic cables before them, able to withstand up to 20,000 bends.
Design and Usability
Each model is available in two sizes (3'/6') and in a variety of playful colors designed to coordinate with Anker's latest line of charging accessories.

Greener Packaging
Another area where Anker has worked to improve is the actual packaging of its products. Anker's latest bio-based cables use 99 percent less plastic. The inner tray material has been changed from plastic to pulp. The wrapping paper is FSC certified, 100% recyclable and printed with recycled soy ink. Anker will seek to apply these packaging standards to future products.
