DSM launched foldable bio-based bottles

DSM Engineering Materials (Helen, the Netherlands) recently announced the cooperation with DiFOLD (Sofia, Bulgaria), a start-up focusing on sustainable development, to develop foldable and reusable products.

This start-up company chose Arnitel of DSM Engineering Materials ® Eco (a bio-based thermoplastic copolyester) to make origami folding water bottles. The adoption of Arnitel ECO marks a big step forward in DiFOLD's mission of reducing the impact of packaging waste on the environment.

Inspired by Japanese origami art, the patent and award-winning design of DiFOLD origami bottle means that it can be folded to less than 10% of the original volume, greatly improving the convenience of users and reducing the carbon footprint of transportation. Origami bottles provide a durable, reusable and recyclable substitute for disposable water bottles - helping to avoid waste of plastic packaging. Because these bottles are made from Arnitel Eco of DSM Engineering Materials, they are even more beneficial to the environment.

Arnitel Eco is a bio-based thermoplastic copolyester, partially derived from renewable rapeseed oil. This greatly reduces the carbon dioxide emissions of this material, and the carbon footprint is reduced by up to 2% compared with traditional copolyesters. This measurement is based on in-depth life cycle assessment (LCA), which includes each stage of material production, from the planting of raw materials to the finished products.

These qualities make Arnitel Eco the perfect choice for DiFOLD origami bottles. According to Radina Popova and Petar Zaharinov, co-founders of DiFOLD, recyclability and durability are key factors to consider when selecting materials for its unique products. "We want a bio-based material that can be recycled and has specific mechanical properties required for folding design.

Arnitel Eco provides high performance and has very low impact on the environment. It does not contain BPA and can withstand temperatures from - 50 ° C to+30 ° C. Moreover, it does not absorb the smell or taste of liquid, so that its service life is long. In addition, Arnitel Eco can also be recycled without reducing the quality of recycled materials. This is essential to help DiFOLD achieve its goal of creating a closed-loop recycling system for its products.
