Futerro Polylactic Acid Rebrands, 75,000-Ton Plant in France Opens in 2028

On September 1, Belgian company Futerro decided to rename its polylactic acid (PLA)-based bioplastic product line "Futeon."

To coincide with the launch of its new biorefinery in France, Futerro has changed the name of its polylactic acid (PLA)-based bioplastic product line from "Renew™" to "Futeon™." The move aims to convey the company's core vision of innovation and sustainability.

The word "Futeon," etymologically linked to the concept of "the era of the future," accompanies the new visual identity, encompassing the brand logo and official website. However, the composition, performance, and certifications of the current products remain unchanged.

Founded in 1992, Futerro primarily produces lactic acid, lactide, and polylactic acid (PLA). PLA is a bio-based polymer that is compostable and recyclable.

Currently, the company is the world's second-largest producer of polylactic acid, with an annual production capacity of approximately 100,000 tons, primarily concentrated in Asia. It is expected that by 2028, a new plant in Normandy, France, with an annual production capacity of 75,000 tons of polylactic acid, will be officially operational.
