Total Announces PLA Price Increase: How Much?

Apr 29, 2026

On April 21, 2026, TotalEnergies Corbion announced a price increase for Luminy® polylactic acid (PLA). This adjustment will take effect on April 21, 2026.

The negative impact of the Middle East crisis on transportation and energy costs is the reason TotalEnergies Corbion decided to raise the price of Luminy PLA, a biopolymer produced from polylactic acid.

The manufacturer pledged to work with customers to find the most suitable solutions based on each company's specific needs. At the same time, the manufacturer also pledged to support customers during periods of global market volatility, ensuring a continuous supply of high-quality biodegradable plastic products.

TotalEnergies Corbion did not disclose the amount of the PLA price increase in its price increase letter.

Based on the pricing practices of Chinese biodegradable enterprises that focus on both domestic sales and exports, the price increase of PLA in this round of price hikes triggered by the Middle East situation is generally around $100/ton (≈700 RMB/ton). Total's price increase this time is likely to be within this range.
