Ban On Single-use Plastic Straws

Nov 08, 2021

According to reports, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and the New Jersey Business Action Center announced that starting from November 4, 2021, the ban on single-use plastic straws will take effect, and food service companies can only provide disposable plastic straws at the request of consumers.

This is part of a statewide effort to reduce plastic pollution, and it applies to all restaurants, convenience stores, and fast food restaurants.

After November 4th, New Jersey consumers can still purchase straw-packed and pre-packaged beverages with straws, such as juice boxes.

On November 4 last year, New Jersey passed a state law that also bans disposable plastic handbags and polystyrene foam products, which will take effect in May 2022. The New Jersey Plastic Pollution Reduction Act will become one of the strongest plastic bag bans in the United States.
