Bangladesh: reduce disposable plastic by 90% by 2026
On February 16, 2023, Md Shahab Uddin, Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change of the Government of Bangladesh, said that the government had taken measures to reduce the disposable use of plastic by 90% by 2026.
"In addition, it is also planned to increase the recovery rate of plastic waste to 80% by 2030, and then reduce the production of plastic waste to 30%."
The Minister of Environment delivered a speech as the main guest at the seminar on solid waste management in a city hotel on February 16. He said that the government has formulated a three-year action plan to stop the use of disposable plastics in coastal areas and will increase the use of eco-friendly and biodegradable materials.

The Minister said that the hazardous waste management rules were formulated in 2021 for solid waste management, and added that the medical waste regulations were being updated.
He added that the government's national 3R waste management policy aims to completely eliminate waste treatment in open spaces, rivers, drainage ditches, canals and plains, and encourage waste recycling by forcing waste separation at the source, while creating a market for recycled products.
