Guinea issues decree to ban disposable plastic packaging and articles, promotes biodegradable packaging
On September 21, the Republic of Guinea issued a decree to ban the production, import, sale and use of disposable plastic packaging and articles, aiming to promote public health, promote biodegradable packaging, protect the environment, improve the health of people and animals, and reduce pollution.
(Disposable plastic packaging or articles: refers to all plastic packaging or articles designed for one-time use and then discarded or recycled, including plastic bags, oxidatively degradable plastics, and articles partially made of plastic. )
The decree applies to all relevant producers, importers, and companies and individuals using disposable plastics. The decree prohibits the disposal of disposable plastic packaging in public places, urban and rural areas, drainage systems and waters. Disposable plastic articles for medical, agricultural and military purposes, garbage collection bags, and plastic packaging for certain foods and medicines are not subject to the decree.
Disposable plastic articles that have been ordered or in stock can be used within six months after the decree takes effect, and producers must comply with relevant regulations within two years.
In the Republic of Guinea, all activities involving the production or import of biodegradable packaging must undergo certification regulations jointly signed by the Ministry of Environment, Industry and Commerce. The certification process is coordinated by the Ministry of Environment.
