Italy, produces high-purity bio-based plasticizers, completely free of phthalates
On January 16, 2025, Versalis, a chemical subsidiary of Eni Group, Italy, launched the high-purity bio-based plasticizer Nareglax®, which brings a more environmentally friendly and better performance option to the application fields of rubber and polyvinyl chloride (PVC).
Nareglax® innovatively uses azelaic acid derived from European vegetable oil as a raw material. It looks like a clear liquid with high purity. Verified by ASTM D 6866-22 standard, the plasticizer contains 38% plant-derived carbon, which can effectively reduce the carbon footprint of the product.
It has excellent versatility and is perfectly compatible with PVC, nitrile rubber (NBR) and chloroprene rubber (CR). It can directly replace traditional plasticizers such as dioctyl sebacate (DOS) and dioctyl adipate (DOA). In actual application scenarios, NAREGLAX® is particularly suitable for products that require low-temperature performance, such as wires, cables, hoses, films and packaging.
In terms of performance, Nareglax® performs well. Its weather resistance ensures long-term stable use of the product in various complex environments; its good electrical insulation makes it an ideal choice for the wire and cable industry; its low volatility and low migration rate ensure the stability of the product's physical properties, avoiding the problem of product performance degradation caused by plasticizer volatilization or migration during use.
In terms of safety, Nareglax® is completely phthalate-free, which greatly improves the safety of the product. Phthalates are more common in traditional plasticizers, but they are controversial because of their potential harm to human health and the environment. NAREGLAX®'s phthalate-free design also has broad application prospects in fields with extremely high safety requirements such as food packaging and medical suppliers.
