Georgia, August 9, 2021 - New WinCup Holdings, Inc. released a time-lapse video and accompanying report demonstrating the rapid biodegradation of its phade ® straws in a controlled marine environment.
phade ® is the world's first marine biodegradable straw. The video and report are the result of a project implemented by the product testing company Keypoint Intelligence, which involved placing phade ® in two unique brine tank environments and monitoring the biodegradation process.
Petroleum-based plastic straws need at least 200 years to be biodegradable, but the project showed that phade ® is made of PHA (polyhydroxyalkanoate), a substrate derived from rapeseed oil fermentation, and achieved complete biodegradation in just 58 days.
