Total Launches Bio-Based PLA Dishcloth, Formula Revealed!

May 28, 2026

Recently, Total Energy's Corian and South Korean consumer goods company Yuhan-Kimberly jointly announced the official launch of their new generation of bio-based washable kitchen wipes, developed through three years of in-depth collaboration. This brings a sustainable and recyclable new solution to the home cleaning industry.

This new product is the result of a deep integration of the two companies' technological and market advantages. Its core formula utilizes Total Energy's Corian Luminy® PLA polylactic acid resin (grade L130), combined with polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA) from South Korea's CJ Biomaterials and FSC® certified pulp, creating a bio-based synergistic formula. It is made entirely from plant-based materials, completely eliminating traditional petroleum-based raw materials. Further Reading: PHA+PLA+Cellulose, the World's First Amorphous PHA Dishcloth

After multiple development tests and industrial validations, Luminy® PLA has successfully passed stringent scenario certifications, becoming a high-quality polylactic acid application solution in this category.

Compared to traditional disposable wipes and paper towels, this dishcloth is washable and reusable, balancing durability and practicality. It significantly reduces resource consumption and waste pollution associated with disposable cleaning products, aligning perfectly with the concept of a circular economy and achieving a dual breakthrough in product functionality and environmental friendliness.

Kevin Cho, Senior Business Development Manager at Total Energy Corbin, stated that from concept to commercialization, both parties collaborated on the development and validation of Luminy® PLA to meet stringent functional and sustainability requirements.

Chang-Woo Ahn, Head of R&D at Yuhan-Kimberly, also stated that this washable dishcloth demonstrates the possibilities that can be created when materials science and product design are deeply integrated.

It is understood that the product has already been launched through Yuhan-Kimberly's offline retail and online channels in Asia, and global market deployment was prepared during the R&D phase.

In the future, both parties will use this cooperation as a platform to extend the relevant technologies to hygiene and wiping products in the fields of spunbond, meltblown and other nonwoven fabrics, continuously promote the industrialization and large-scale application of bio-based materials, create high-performance and environmentally friendly solutions that can replace petroleum-based plastics, and help the global consumer goods industry achieve green transformation.
