Danone, Canada's first recyclable yogurt packaging

On June 10, Danone Canada announced a $9 million investment in its Boucherville site. This is the first time Danone has used PET resin to produce yogurt packaging in Canada, with the goal of incorporating up to 30% recycled PET.

The initiative is led by Danone's Oikos brand, which will be the first to use this technology as Canada's best-selling high-protein Greek yogurt brand. The new PET cup has been launched across Canada, directly affecting local yogurt packaging and consumption patterns.

The Quebec government supports the project, with Investissement Quebec providing a $3 million loan and Recycling Quebec contributing a $400,000 direct grant.

Danone Canada's investment is not only a packaging upgrade, but also sends a strong signal that the future of the food industry must deeply practice earth-friendly innovation. With the support of Quebec institutions and clear planning, this move lays the foundation for widespread change across the industry.
