In order to prevent irresponsible littering of large quantities of single-use plastic outdoors, Taiwan's environmental protection authority has decided to ban the use of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) in food packaging starting in July 2023. This means that from July next year, Taiwan will suspend the production, import and sale of food packaging materials containing PVC.
Taiwan's "Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)" announced in a statement that after July 2023, trade in PVC-containing materials used in food packaging will not be allowed. Therefore, traders, importers, manufacturers or distributors must clear all stocks by the deadline. Heavy fines have been proposed for violators.
